A great show with a handful of stars.
You couldn't ask for more. Hosted by
97.5 on-air personalities, the birthday bash was a huge success. As the night went on,
the mixed crowd of teenagers to adults grew. Throughout the show audience members were told by the 97.5 staff that they would be able to come backstage
if they were spotted supporting WPST. Although we can never be sure this was true, the crowd continued to wave its posters and banners during the concert.
Hoku, one of the first acts, performed well, although she told the audience
that she was feeling sick. She got the crowd going with her hit "Another Dumb Blonde" and also sang her new single "How Do I feel?."
Blaque, consisting of Shamari, Natina, and Brand, did not seem pleased to be at this concert.
Before Blaque came on stage, their dancers performed for a few minutes. Then the group came out and sang half a song and stopped. The audience could hear
them complaining to the sound crew that the sound was too low for the crowd and that the monitors needed to be turned up.
They played their smash hit "I
Do" and then, much to the audience’s surprise, the group disappeared off the stage not to return.
Nine days, the guitar pop band from Long Island taking
the nation by storm with their single “Absolutely (Story Of A Girl),” restored the crowd’s enthusiasm with a blow-out performance.
Be sure to catch
Nine days on their summer concert tour. Take it from me--they really know
how to perform live. Their album, The Madding Crowd, is in stores now.
One of the
most energetic performers of the night was
Blessid Union of
Souls. From the crowd singing word-for-word the lyrics to "Hey Leonardo" to the performance of the song "I
Believe" in styles ranging from reggae to heavy metal, the group’s act was a
tough one to follow. Keep on the lookout for their untitled album, which will contain all of their singles over the past 5 years and two new tracks, to be
released mid-summer. As the night went on, the young and sweet
Mandy Moore
sang her heart out for the crowd and dazzled us with some moves of her own.
Mandy had the audience going wild as she sang "Candy" off her platinum album,
So Real. She is currently on tour promoting her new album, I Wanna Be With
You, which contains 5 new tracks, a remix of the gold single "Candy" and behind-the-scenes CD Extra material.
Most of the performers took only 20
minutes to change their sets, while Third Eye Blind (3eb) took around 45 minutes.
The wait was well worth it, however. Their entire performance had the crowd on their feet, unlike the rest of the performers.
Some of the songs
of their set included, "Semi-charmed life", "Jumper", "Never let you go", "1000 Julys" and "10 days".
During the show front-man Stephan
Jenkins asked the crowd if it wanted to hear a new song, and excitedly, it shouted yes.
To
much dismay, however, the song ended up being "Deep Inside You," the new single off their new platinum release
Blue. 3eb's music took the audience over and never let it go.
But all good things have to come to an end, and
after over an hour, the band left, leaving the crowd begging for more. Overall, this show had an excellent mix of performers.
97.5 even set up an autograph table, but to actually get an autograph you had to miss some of the
show. The Sovereign Bank Arena, located in Trenton, N.J., is a new facility with good food, a lot of security, and a great overall atmosphere.
The
concert goers definitely got their money’s worth out of this show. Radio show concerts usually contain a bunch of your favorite acts for a great price, so
be sure to be on the lookout for one near you! -Todd
