In Moderation
Reprise Records

Music Head Rating:

Nothing stops 8stops7.  In Moderation, the group’s freshman effort off Reprise Records, is an album not to miss.  Produced by Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, Korn, Sevendust), the album contains energetic passion-filled music with lyrics written on real subjects.  Band members Evan Sula-Goff (vocals, guitar), Seth Watson (guitars), Adam Powell (drums), Alex Viveros (bass) and Aaron Johnson (guitar) started touring on the California circuit in February of 1997 and with the release of their self-produced CD, Birth Of A Cynic, fans grew rapidly.  The numbers 8 and 7 can symbolize many different parts of life.  Therefore, the meaning of the group's name can be held to many different interpretations.  Frontman Evan Sula-Goff explains, "Adam originally came up with '8 Stops Nowhere,' because the number 8 represents infinity.  Then we changed it to '8Stops7'.  The 7 symbolizes completion, while the 8 symbolizes new hope.  In psychology, there are eight stages of life.  Basically, 7 is the symbol of something you want to get away from and 8 is the door you go through to get there." In Moderation contains 11 great tracks all with a different sound.  The first single, "Satisfied," is an electrifying and pulsating song condemning overindulgence.  Another track, "Regression," confronts school shootings through the shooter’s point of view: "They spit on my name, and now I have a gun, running 'round in circles, kids come out to play, But I can't remember what it was that made me feel this...hate."  Through the engrossing lyrics of "Question Everything," the next single to be released, you can feel the artists’ ardent emotions, and the words will linger long after the music stops.  8Stops7 still has room to grow, but In Moderation is definitely an album to purchase.  In Moderation is sure to satisfy. -Todd Wojtowicz
